The Tutor System

At the College, the house parents are supported by the tutor system, which has existed at the King’s School since 1886.

Academic staff have a tutor group consisting of up to ten students, drawn from all year groups and courses within the College.

Alongside undertaking evening duties in the College, each tutor meets their group formally once every school day, from Monday to Saturday. The tutor discusses academic progress with his/her tutees, identifying targets and areas of development, and encourages and supports them in all areas of College life. Tutor groups also play an important role in organising and shaping our weekly assemblies, which are held in the College courtyard every Wednesday – weather permitting!

The tutors quickly get to know their tutees well, taking them out for meals or other social activities as a group, and act as a key contact for parents and guardians.
